About

I’m a mathlete turned medical writer, with a passion for prose.

Creatives love me for breaking down complex medical concepts so they can understand the problem we are trying to solve.

Clients love me for helping them say what they want to say about their brands.

Leianne Vergara

Once upon a time, I graduated from McMaster University with a B.Sc.(Hons) in Mathematics & Statistics, a specialization in Applied Mathematics and a minor in Biochemistry.

Though I had the qualifications to continue in the fields of research or academia, I couldn’t see myself crunching numbers or sitting at a lab bench. I’ve always had a creative streak and a passion for prose.

I came upon a job posting for a “Medical Writer” - I had no idea it was a thing. But with the academics required to sift through clinical data, and my writing samples in hand, I got the job and started my career as a Junior Medical Writer at a boutique creative agency with one big pharma client among a myriad of consumer clients.

Over fifteen years later, in my current role as VP Creative Director, I generate ideas, develop concepts, oversee copy, provide strategic insight, and resource high-volume portfolios for a global agency’s healthcare creative team.

My work encompasses healthcare professional, patient, and direct-to-consumer communications in print, digital and broadcast media. I'm experienced in conceptualizing and writing traditional print media ads, iPad eDetail aids, as well as integrated campaigns that feature online + mobile + broadcast + print, all while balancing creative expression with PAAB and medical regulatory standards.

My skills combine a strong scientific background with a creative perspective that stems from a general love of pop culture, technology, food and dance.
